LPS-12i Vehicle Mounted Fully Isolated Regenerative Power Supply

We previously launched the car version PS1, yet its price tag of 4000 RMB and the built-in model aircraft battery that needs replacement every 1-2 years failed to meet the demands of most users. Some hardcore audiophiles install the home QP02 linear power supply in their cars, but they have to use an inverter as an accessory — which instead becomes a bottleneck for sound quality. For this reason, the QP02 derived version exclusively designed for automotive scenarios, the LPS-12i, was officially born.

Two Major Chronic Problems of Car Hi-Fi Power Supply

Over-spec design: Although the rated output is only 3A, we adopt power transistors, MOSFETs and transformers with multiple times the current capacity of 3A. Sufficient power margin effectively reduces internal resistance of the power supply.

Full audiophile-grade components are adopted throughout the circuit to avoid performance bottlenecks and raise the overall sound quality ceiling.

Many audiophiles invest in high-quality audio cables, which alone can greatly improve sound performance. Needless to say, every internal component of a power supply plays a critical role — as power is the mother of sound. Therefore, no compromise is made on internal component selection. Inheriting the R&D experience of QP02, the LPS-12i is equipped with premium audiophile op-amps, Toshiba power transistors, Germany WIMA MKP10 film capacitors, Siemens non-inductive film capacitors, Vishay MKP1837 capacitors, as well as Panasonic / Nichicon / Sprague electrolytic capacitors and DC-1X audiophile-grade DC power cable.

After power regeneration, the LPS-12i adopts a two-stage regulation circuit. The first stage uses premium Linear Technology power chips to perform primary DC-DC regulation on the boosted regenerated voltage. These chips are widely used in high-standard military and industrial automation equipment. Besides ultra-low noise and high technical specifications, they deliver delicate, stable and pure sound performance, and are commonly adopted in high-end Hi-Fi brands such as Goldmund, dartZeel, Weiss and dCS.

The second stage applies a discrete low-noise linear regulation circuit composed of reference power source, audiophile-grade op-amps and high-power transistors. The no-load ripple is less than 0.01mV, reconstructing pure power with high transient response.

The design of regenerating higher voltage followed by two-stage regulation not only optimizes noise isolation, but also enhances the transient response of the power supply. Acoustically, it delivers wider soundstage and better three-dimensional layering.
